So I am planning my first custom waterloop build, and I was wondering which I should go with.  A Pump Res Combo or get them separate?  Also what should I get with about 150$ for pump and res?

It's mainly up to you as the builder, there is a slight benefit of have a separate pump res unit for vibration isolation leading to noise. Personally my favorite is to have a pump res combo especially since it helps saves space if you have a smaller case.

As for a unit EKWB makes a nice one:

you get a choice for pumps, primarily ddc or d5, the d5 as I understand it is a little quieter and cooler, but has less pressure than the ddc. Most recommendations are to get the d5 because the pressure shouldn't be an issue in a typical custom loop
