24$ for a good CPU could be acceptable, even though I am looking more to the 10$ price (Core 2 Quad is acceptable too). And I don't think it's a good idea to spend over 40-50$ on old motherboards. Beside that, by buying one of those systems from my cousin I also help him get rid of those.

Those X38 and X48 are still holding value even if used since their term EXTREME doesn seem to vanish from them, and there are some dirt cheap BRAND NEW X38 boards for like $50-$80 in the cheep range (there are only 2 new boards which are cheap)and there are server boards that are compatible with the QX6700,i see a refurb board X38ML for $38,X38 is compatible with the Qx6700,

Update : After going around checking for a new rig, and taking the barebones from my cousin (same type of case+mobo), tested my PC a last time, and it did work. Lol.

Is it normal for the motherboard temperature to be higher than the CPU ? The average temperature is about 20 degrees Celsius higher than that of the CPU, while running an Aida64 stability test.

Which one is the barebones you are talking about? Is it Another DC7800 with no parts?

Which one? The Barebones or The Dead DC7800? Well if the Dead DC7800,then nice but I wont recommend using a motherboard which is starting to break down and eventually completely break down, but you've got a barebones with same case, mobo,so ur good for the dead DC7800 even if it totally dies,Is the Dead/Barebones(if its a DC7800) SFF?

I dont think that is normal except if the ambient temp is high

Yes. Barebones generally refers to a case+mobo+CPU combo.

The "dead" one. And, it's ok, using this one till it dies. I can still get the barebones from my cousin. He still has a few of these left.

No, the ambient temperature is not high. The only thing that could affect it though is that the airflow goes :

Front (outside) -> CPU fan (on the side) -> CPU heatsink -> Chipset heatsink (kinda isolated/blocked) -> Case fan -> Back (outside)

I could change the air direction. Maybe that way the chipset could be cooler, but the system would accumulate a lot of dust, being that there are no filters in the back, unlike the front.

Another thing I could do is to bring air in from both front and back but then there would be a problem with getting that air out, being that there is no other opening in the case.
