This pretty good PPD?

On my Sempron I'm getting about 1.3K points per day. I'm assuming this is pretty good. Right? And that was just it going for about 20 minutes. Better than my Pentium 4 with the same clock speed, but it's Hyper-Threaded (it got 348). And what would my PPD be if I got an Athlon II X3 450?

not amazing but it gives you a reference, ive only been folding a short time but my gtx260 gets something like 6000ppd (estimate, it always says "unknown" on my graphics cards, help?) and my tx 285 gets 8000ppd (again unknown for sure) my spare e5200 pentium dual core and 9600gt gets around 3000estimate

unlocking your processor will double your ppd and getting an athlon x3 will tripple it, would it be worth the cost? no, a second hand graphics card would get you more for less and you'll only be generating a few points per day unless you leave it on 24/7.

i take it you followed the instruction to fold for th linus team and you've got it set to use full system at idle (with pc going idle within a few minutes), its what i had to do..

so you'd spend £60 (or thereabouts) on a processor when you could get 66% of the performance for nothing...

or you could buy an fx6300 for £80 and get something like 9x the performance of your current sempron, something like 3-4x the performance if you unlocked your sempron (still free) or DOUBLE the performance of the x3 athlon for only 33% more money...

edit, let me rephrase this

unlocked to athlon x2-cost-nothing-benefit-100%   budget/short/medium term option

athlon x3-cost-£60-benefit-200%

fx6300-cost-£80-benefit over sempron-500%

fx6300-cost-£80-benefit over athlonx2-200%
