SECOND GPU IS AT O DEGREES C UNLESS BENCHMARKING???

hi

I'm running 2 x r9 290x's in my system, as of last night, the second gpu's temperature went to 0 degrees c in afterburner and gpuz for no apparent reason.

if i benchmark and play games, the second gnu is recognised and the tempe goes up like normal.

does anyone know whats going on?

thanks

the cards are on a custom water loop

idle temps will be around 28 degrees when idle, this has always come up in AB and gpuz

for some reason, last night, the temp of the second card was at o

i checked the cables etc and everything seemed fine so i ran a benchmark and the card then went up in temp and usage as normal

same when i ran a game, after i quit the benchmark or game, the gnu goes back to 0

very strange

well.. without having any clue what i'm talking about with crossfire..

could it be possible that when not in game, the second GPU isnt doing anything, and AMD's actually well optimized power management shuts the thing down entirely in a similar fashion as nvidia optimus does with laptop GPUs, also shutting down thermal management in the process.

thank you for the reply, definitely sounds reasonable, my only concern was that this just happened out the blue after running for the last 6 months normally

It's an AMD feature iirc where the 2nd GPU is turned off entirely during light load scenarios (idle, web browsing) to save power and heat.

hi, thank you for the reply

i dont suppose why you know this has just happened so suddenly, the gpu was always at o percent usage unless gaming but would always show the idle temp

is it anything to worry about?
