Hi guys! I have this laptop http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/msi-leopard-pro-gp62-7qf-15-6-gaming-laptop-black-10160774-pdt.html

I was researching it because I was super bored xD and there was a forum post and it was saying you can change out the GPU? Is this true? I don't think you could

it would be great if you included link to the forum post you read

changing hardware in laptops is unusual but is possible in some cases

the laptop in my signature is a proof of that, changed cpu, gpu, added ssd and ram...

I'll have to hunt for it hang on. I seen it on the amazon qna xD

Bit off topic, how does the laptop perform?

Amazon answers are the worst thing on the internet. Well, almost.

As it's a budget gaming laptop I'm 99% sure you can't change the GPU, if you can it will definitely be mentioned on the manufacturer's website.

And even then, future support for laptops that offer this is usually more than dreadful, in many cases completely non existent.

Does you mum know you're here?

i upgraded my laptop from ATI 5870M to NVIDIA 970M, that was huge jump in performance (Metro 2033 - 30fps vs 130fps)

but its worth mentioning the price of gpu upgrade

it cost me about $500, i had to buy the card and a new heatsink for it

thats like half the price of the laptop itself

for me it was worth it as its kind of a hobby to meddle with computers and i was never going to buy another gaming laptop so i wanted to keep this one alive

what im saying is, its probably not worth it for you even if it would be possible

MSI offered GPU upgrades for some high end models, but I don't think that is one of them. My GE 62 6QF wasn't one either.

Is it possible to de solder the chip and resolder a new one on?

Is it in theory possible, maybe. Is it in any way practical, no.

Upgrades would usually be through swapping MXM modules, but again I think they're only used on some high end/bigger models.
