Hello,

yesterday I was using my computer the whole day and it worked like normal, but then at first just my facebook tab in chrome started lagging and being unresponsive, but I could play games and run programs just fine. But now every program starts lagging when I move the mouse and keeps lagging until I stop moving it. It gets worse if I move the mouse faster but doesn't affect all programs equally(Chrome is much worse than Firefox, Battlefield 1 is much worse then CoD 4). Local videos play smoothly but the whole File explorer lags when moving the mouse. Application load times have increased as weel, and so did the CPU and GPU usage by about 20% but is still far from 100% usage. I tried installing older graphics drivers with no effect, as weel as updating windows and multiple restarts. I also ran Malwarebytes and Avast antivirus, both coming up clean.  I also ran Disk Cleanup, Defragment and CHKDSK.

I checked in Information viewer and two errors come up:

The server {D7FD466D-F6CF-4C8E-86DD-12E9B0FDAE48} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

and this one:

This is a potential solution. Without far more information I can't be certain.

I'll make the assumption that you're running windows 10 (or 8, it was a problem with both)

Newer generations of windows have a program known as windows search optimisation (sometimes called superfetch). Sometimes this goes haywaire, and starts chewing up memory (Mainly hard drive utilisation). You can diagnose this by checking task manager, and looking at how much The system is utilising the hard drive. if superfetch has gone haywire this will be stuck at or near 100% (also a feature they stuck in windows 8 and 10). Why this slows down a computer so much is that most setups using windows are constantly using the hard drive to dump non-esential, but still needed data from ram, and if it can't do this quickly it slows everything down.

This i just a guess from incomplete data.

Okay spent a whole 5 minutes checking. Apparently Shellexperiencehost.exe can go haywire as well, usually when left to it's own devices (windows 10 is sounding like an unruly toddler at this stage)

This article discusses the issues, and potential solutions.

Thank you for your time, but sadly none of your suggestions fixed the issue. The disk usage is 0% at idle and spikes when opening an applicationScreenshot_1.png.b05dbdb233c996f2176e410ebc680526.png

Shellexperiencehost.exe seems to act normal as well:

Sorry that I forgot to include my operating system. I am running Windows 10 Pro. What would you need to make a more accurate assessment of the issue?

Thank you in advance!

Honestly, access. But that isn't going to happen. Sorry I grew up in the era of 486's I can diagnose most problems, but google is my friend when it comes to software issues.

Keep a watch on when the slow downs happen, and try to access task manager when they happen to see if anything is out of the ordinary. An alternative is to use any of a multitude of monitoring software options. I'm sure gigabyte makes one for free. I personally use Corsairlink, but I'd recommend you stick your computer in a furnace and shut the door before using it if you have other options ( I don't like corsair, but I'm sort of stuck)

Most slow downs come from a few sources.

RAM usage is the big one. Premade manufacturers like dell have no problem sticking a modern OS on computers that look good on paper but aren't made for them. For any 64 bit OS you need 8GB of ram or more. Not really n issue here with 16GB of ram

Temperature. most laptops aren't really made to deal with large loads. They heat up like crazy, and then declock as the computer tries to deal with a processing load that the designers never intended. Usually shows up when rendering graphics. Desktops are better normally, but I've seen some manufacturers stick a 95W chip under a 75W cooler, and not understand why it's trying to fry itself.

Something oddball. TLC flash had a problem when data overflowed the cache. Not something I would expect to be a problem with 512 GB evo 850's but something to be aware of, It'd take a bit to overflow the cache on one of those but it could happen. Apparently there was an issue with the 1TB model that used the same controller as the 840 (if you've got one of those, then offload it to a really dumb friend) There is a firmware update for the controller on the 850, but no release notes to go along with it, so no idea what they fixed. If those spikes on your SSD usage coincide with the slowdowns it might be worth checking out.

All the lagging stopped when I plugged in and using a second mouse, but I don't know why this is the problem as the cursor moved smoothly while apps in the background were freezing... If I plug in the old mouse and use it, it starts lagging again.
