For a 60Hz refresh rate, the Acer H236HL bid is not a bad option. I'm using it right now.

You don't really want to go much bigger than 25 inches (or 29in ultrawide) with 1080p.  Pixel density becomes pretty gross.

SFF-ish:  Ryzen 5 1600X, Asrock AB350M Pro4, 16GB Corsair LPX 3200, Sapphire R9 Fury Nitro -75mV, 512gb Plextor Nvme m.2, 512gb Sandisk SATA m.2, Cryorig H7, stuffed into an Inwin 301 with rgb front panel mod.  LG27UD58.

 

Aging Workhorse:  Phenom II X6 1090T Black (4GHz #Yolo), 16GB Corsair XMS 1333, RX 470 Red Devil 4gb (Sold for $330 to Cryptominers), HD6850 1gb, Hilariously overkill Asus Crosshair V, 240gb Sandisk SSD Plus, 4TB's worth of mechanical drives, and a bunch of water/glycol.  Coming soon:  Bykski CPU block, whatever cheap Polaris 10 GPU I can get once miners start unloading them.

I'd say not much larger than 23". I can see pixels from >2 ft. away on my 1080p 23" monitor.

The one I linked. Most people don't see pixels as I do though, so for most people it wouldn't be any issue.

Look at you with your incredible vision!  According to the calculation Apple uses for "retina", someone with perfect eyesight should be unable to discern pixels at any distance greater than 3 feet on a 23in monitor, which is actually very close for a monitor that size.  At work I have two 22's and a laptop screen, and I'm generally about arms length away from the monitors.

 

All jokes aside, I consider 24 inch class (aka 23 and change inches, both of my samsung S24's are actually 23.6in) to be the sweet spot for 1080p.  It's big enough that you don't need to be too close to the screen, and the pixel density looks pretty good.  29in 1080p ultrawide has about the same vertical height and pixel density as a 24 inch class 16:9 monitor, and can be considered the same for the sake of this discussion.
