Case fan problems

Hi, guys, I'm building my first own PC, I got these 3 pin case fan connectors, but the MB only have 4 Pin fan slot, can 3 pin fan connect to 4 pin?

 

This is my first ever PC build, I have a lot of unknowns, so please help

Yes. In computers, most of the connecters will only fit where they are supposed to go. The 3 pin fans work perfectly with a 4 pin slot.

So I just simply plug it in and leave 2 pin left?

Yup. I did it with my case fans (one is LED) on my Corsair Spec-02 case, and they work fine. If you watch Linus's old build guides, somewhere in there he tells you that it doesn't matter, both 3 and 4 pin fans work with 4 pin headers. But there should only be one pin sticking out after connecting a 3 pin fan.

I'm not sure where you got the number 2 from.

2, 3, and 4pin fan headers are backwards compatible.

Thanks for the pic! Should help simplify things for the OP. Cool to know that 4 pin fans work on 3 pin headers as well.
