make a download server

is there a way with a pi or a server or any other hard ware to make a download server so if i go to download a thing or click a download link then it sends them to a either offsite or local sever and then download it  there

You just need a web server to be set up and you can already download objects from the web.

yes, that is kinda how downloads usually work, there is a lot of software involved however, DNS, download servers, IPs and networking.

I want it to download off my pc though

you could always use a cloud based solution, but for a download server like that, basically each file needs it's own zone in the DNS files and you need a lot of support systems and routed IP's and ports, it isn't trivial to download a file off a PC like that, you'd be better off using a VPN and a home group on windows.

This is kinda what i do with my torrents. I have rTorrent/ruTorrent running in a VM, and I use a browser extension called "Remote Torrent Adder" which allows me to send .torrent files direct to my client.

For what you want, you could probably configure it with JDownloader, and use the MyJDownloader browser plugin to redirect downloads to the Pi/Server

im doing exactly this thing with jdownloader, i have it installed on my nas and send the links over via my PC or phone.

as i am running a synology nas i simply install the Jdownloader package and register the myjdownloader account.

 

If you want to do the same with a Pi you just install any linux you want on the Pi and install the Jdownloader, login to your myjdownloader profile and use the chrome browser extention on your PC to end the links over.

 

same goes for the jdownloader app on your phone.
