Hey guys, I'm just curious. When wiring a Patch Panel, you're using either t568A or t568B patterns on each end of the patch cable, as you all know. But when it comes to making your own ethernet cables with RJ45 Jacks, is there a specific pattern you should be using in relation to which pattern you use on the patch panel?

my rule of thumb here is, just make them the same on both ends :) after that it's the next techie's problem

No. As long as the patterns are the same on both ends of the cable, it doesn't matter. You can use any order you like, provided they are the same on both ends, or opposite if making a crossover cable. I generally stick to T568B on everything as it's the most commonly used standard here in the UK and if you get used to using one pattern it's easy to remember. Also, if someone else needs to come and put a new connector on one end of the cable or terminate it in a jack for some reason, it's best to use an already established standard.

and as long as the pairs are correct ;)

but for the love of god, please, stick to a standard..

What i mean to ask is, is there a T568A or B RJ45 Male Termination that corresponds to the T568A or B on the Patch panel? I can't seem to find anything that makes the answer plain and clear.

I'm not sure what you mean there. Basically, if the patch panel is using T568B, use T568B on everything else as well. If using A, use A. While you can technically mix and match them, provided patch cables use the same standard on each end, it just causes unnecessary confusion when it comes to change things.

T568A-and-T568B-wiring-schemes.jpg

in theory, this is the standard. the important thing is that the pairs are where they are, and that they are in the same place on both sides. as long as you stick to the standard for all connectors you do, you should always be good.

i'll stick to the standard colors when i can, but if it is one of those annoying RJ-45 heads that doesn't ahve the little "comb" thing for the individual wires, i tend to get annoyed, and just jam them all in there mercilessly until they all find a place, then tediously match that on the other end.

Ok so for example, lets say I terminated a patch panel with T568B.

I want to make and terminate my my own ethernet cable with RJ45 Male jacks to plug into the panel and then to a client device. Does it matter which pattern I use on the cable that would be plugged into the panel and then to the client device?

Technically, no. As long as both ends of the cable use the same standard, it doesn't matter. However, as a general rule of thumb, you want to use the same standard on everything, just to avoid confusion in the event one end of a cable needs to be redone or something similar.
