Greetings. I was hoping someone could let me know the capabilities of the ram I have. 

 

Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 2x 4GB with an advertised speed of 2400mhz

 

The rest of the relevant specs are:

CPU: i7 6700k at 4.5ghz (manual overclock; Voltage set to 1.296 with the adaptive + offset option selected).

Mobo:  MSi Z170A Gaming M3  

 

I know very little about ram overclocking so bare with me.

 

The motherboard has an XMP option which I selected, that brought the ram to its advertised speed, I then changed the ram speed up until the system wouldn't boot, I got to 2700mhz. Note that I did not change anything else other than the ram speeds AFTER I had the XMP profile on. The ram voltage went from 1.2 volts to 1.216 courtesy of the XMP profile. The voltage is set to auto in the bios and will go up to 1.216 and down again as needed by the system. 

 

So that's all well, right? Anyway. I see that you can buy DDR4 ram with shipping voltages of 1.35 and they are usually 3000mhz and up, or RGB. So that got me thinking... Mine shipped with stock voltages of 1.2 volts and XMP pushed it up to 1.216 and then I made it even faster still. Now I don't want to destroy my system so I am asking you lovely people first if I can take my ram up to say 1.35 volts and 3000mhz speeds. The concept intrigues me so I'd like to know more, and I also don't want to break my system. I am also aware of timings or latencies, but I don't know enough about that to even talk about it other than the lower the better, right?

 

So in summary:

1 - Consider the ram I have

2 - Consider the current settings applied to my system

3 - Can I take put 1.35 volts through my ram to get to speeds like 3000mhz?

4 - Ram latencies, the basic run down. 

 

No 3 is the primary question.
