So I have 4 sticks of Corsair's original Vengeance LED RAM in white. I got them before they released the RGB version.

The sticks have very good diffusers over the LEDs. So much so that I made an accidental discovery while I was adding LEDs to my XSPC water blocks:

A single blue LED illuminating from the side of the stick was enough to make the entire stick glow a uniform blue.

My crazy idea is that I could get more of these individual LEDs, secure them to the side of the DIMMs, and have a constant blue tone with the occasional extra white glow coming in and out.

My concern is if this will have any long term problems with have a constant external LED on these things, always on as long as the PC is on.

I've seen how hot LEDs can sometimes get and I wouldn't want to damage or discolor the heat spreaders in the process (though that might only be a concern for UV LEDs).

Any insights into this would be helpful.

Maybe use a lower-power LED to still give it a glow but not any heat. Or attach an LED to the case and make it shine on the RAM, instead of on the RAM.

The light diffusers only really work when the light source is right up against them. It doesn't have the same effect with indirect light.

I'm not sure about low powered LEDs. Unless it's just adding a resister behind their power source.

And unfortunately, the wife still won't let me get a soldering iron (it was hell enough just getting the dremel).

Do you have any recommendations for where to get LEDs that come prepackaged with ways to adjust brightness?

You can still use a resistor, you just need lots of electrical tape if you don't have a soldering iron. Although it might not look pretty.

I have a Carbide Air 540.

All the ugliness is hidden away in the back chamber behind the rubber grommets. No worries about that.
