It seems as if my XFX RS RX480 is running hot, it's at 100% load when I play games, which are set on max settings 1080p. (DOOM and R6Siege for example) Im getting temps between 86-89 but never 90 degrees. I have what I believe to be ample cooling, Corsair 270R Case with two intake fans and an exhaust fan.

All setting on the card are stock, haven't tweaked with anything or played around with settings, newest drivers installed to the best of my knowledge.

Any thoughts or solutions to this?

All input is greatly appreciated.

Could be, maybe changing the voltage or something, it could be where I have my PC setup, no idea yet. I'm going to try moving it tonight, I would like to get low to sub 80 degree temps.

I mean if its not overclocked it shouldn't be pulling any xtra voltage. Youv check the gpu fans are spinning properly and have checked the fan curve is good? You could always reapply the thermal paste which is most likely the problem if the fans are spinning fine and the voltages are stock.

No not pulling extra voltage, but maybe under-volting it a little would bring temps down as a short term fix, the fan curve is good to the best of my knowledge and both fans are spinning.. although you're making me second guess myself. I'll be doing another round of double checks when I get home lol

I just thought about the fact that they're "swappable fans" so I might try taking them out, cleaning the contacts, at reinstalling them to see if that helps. Maybe one or both aren't getting good connections.

if they spin it doesn't matter just check the thermal compound on the processor because that could be the reason the heat isn't being dissipated correctly

Yep good idea. Sucks having to resort to thermal paste replacement but yea if nothing else works either rma it or reapply the paste

My only point was that if their connection for some reason isn't clean enough then maybe they aren't getting the full power thats being sent, either way, I'll go through the list when I get home, fans working properly, fan curve, computer placement, etc and see where it leaves me.

I have this exact card. Mine is oc and doesn't have temps near this. I'm running at max temp 76c and fans at 82%

But I do have more exhaust fans and intake fans on my setup. I have 3 140mm intake fans on the front, 2 120mm exhast fans on top, 1 120mm exhaust fan on the rear, and my psu is flipped to act as an exhaust for the system as well. My case fans don't even go above 60% during heavy gaming loads or bench marking.

Hmmm.. interesting, this could mean that the location I have my pc is trapping too much of the exhaust heat, ill run some tests after moving it somewhere else.

I've read in the past a few ppl experience high temps with the XFX RS model so it could be the model/sample (although others with same model may have differing experience). But originally when the RX 480's came out AMD released a driver fix to resolve some concerns with potential over draw from the pcie slot. Might help in your situation to limit power draw and bring temps down. Here is an expert from the AMD release:

"Separately, we’ve also included an option to reduce total power with minimal performance impact. Users will find this as the “compatibility” UI toggle in the Global Settings menu of Radeon Settings. This toggle is “off” by default."

Also you could investigate Wattman where you can monitor temps and undervolt manually====> "Open up AMD’s Radeon Settings app and click the Gaming tab, then Global Settings, and finally the Global WattMan tab."

I guess if the card is getting 100% usage and not throttling then undervolting is not necessary but it might be worthwhile trying to turn the compatibility UI toggle 'on'.

Oh Also I think with wattman (which is integrated into the AMD Crimson Driver) you can set a temperature limiter so the card doesn't go over set a temp (but i assume it will throttle down?? i dunno). I don't have an AMD card yet so cant check. But here is a guide to Wattman: http://www.pcworld.com/article/3094984/components-graphics/how-to-use-amds-wattman-the-powerful-new-overclocking-tool-for-radeon-graphics-cards.html

I confirmed it was the poor placement of my PC, too much hot air was getting trapped and not enough outside airflow, the card is now running around 80 degrees, thanks for all the input!
