How to try out Linux on Laptop?

I assume linux doesn't use as much space as windows for its os? it looks like a nice idea buying an ssd for it, since what i do on a celeron laptop if fairly limited by its CPU power, so probably wont be having much programs on it anyway. Thanks for help! :P

Linux uses FAR less system resources than windows. The install size for the OS is much smaller, it uses a lot less ram and requires less processing power for the OS itself. In Linux there are far less processes running at any given time, you could say it's a lot more streamlined. This of course, depends on the distro, as some distros are certainly heavier than others. Something like Lubuntu is very light on the system and should run quite well on that type of machine. Mint would be another decent option that is on the lighter side.

i go with mint then, man i've been wanting to ditch windows for a long time now, despite me never using linux before i can feel that windows just have a bunch of garbage in it. the only thing holding me back is because everyone is using windows and different OS can be quite of a hassle when im required to run certain programs.

You'd be surprised just how many windows-only apps and games you actually can run in Linux. All you need is "wine" and "playonlinux". ;)

It doesn't work with everything, but it does work with a lot of common apps and games.

just do it then. Purge Windows from your Harddrive. Take the first step to get your freedom and privacy back. But you should backup your data if you want to go back to Windows. Also for many Windows Appilcations it's just fine to run them in a little VM. Something like 2 GiB RAM and 1 CPU core. This excludes stuff like Photoshop or demanding Games, but for instance M$ Office works just fine.
