Those two are not compatible. You need a B75, Q75, H77 or Z77 motherboard for an Ivy bridge CPU. Or you could do it on a 60-series motherboard like a H61 but you might have to update the BIOS using a 2000-series Sandy Bridge CPU.

I know it's a lot of information, but if you want to put together a computer for cheap for games or for browsing, we can help you with that :)

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

i upgraded my other desktop from a 960 to a 1060 so i'm trying to put a cheap micro atx computer together using it to be used as a lan party pc, my main goal is for it to run things up to gta 5

What's your budget for this new computer and what components do you already have that you can reuse, other than the 960?

I'm in new Zealand, so i'm looking at only spending around 200 NZD, but that might be a pain when finding parts to buy because there is very limited options here especially second hand, also shipping to here is pretty dang expensive.

for more information on the parts i plan to use, the case i want to use is:
http://www.aerocool.us/pgs/pgs-q/qx2000.htm
and the first motherboard and CPU im looking at is this:

Nah don't get those they're really really old. I can't post links to trading sites unfortunately, but I found some bundles of an i5-2400 and H61 motherboard. I think that's what you should get.

me and a couple of friends are doing cheap lan computers and one of them has some all in one PC's that just sit there, so hes letting me take some of the ram and the hard drive from one of them, which is good for me because it should have windows 7 on it, so ill be able to use a genuine copy.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1306783196 this one? its currently on my watch list and i have asked the guy for a buy now price, if not ill try and outbid people for it, it should fit in the case i posted correct?

How about something newer, like 3rd gen? That could do tbh but still feel oldish

@yathis

the thing is that its not a main computer, im just trying to find some low end parts to make the old graphics card from that machine into a lan pc, there isnt any other old machine parts as such other than that card. the whole idea was to spend as little money as possible to run lan party games like LoL, Warframe, CS:GO, GTA V, that type of thing.
