I've had my 290x for two weeks now and this week I started to have black screens after a few minutes (not always) of gaming.. especially BF4.

It is rather random. It occurs after a few minutes or either few hours of gaming according to which game I'm playing.

I hope it is a driver problem rather than a faulty card. There are a lot of people that are having this same problem.

A friend had this, he removed the overclock from his card and it went away.

Not 100% correct. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTS of people are having this issue and they have deemed it to be a small chance of a driver issue or a hardware issue. If its the latter then AMD will have to recall them all.

I fixed it by one of a few ways (BF4 black screen hard locking for me):

un-OC your cards

Turned off ULPS (Ultra Low Power State)

go to your registry

(run: regedit) and search for "EnableUlps" and set it to "0".

next thing i did was create my own fan profile on MSI Afterburner to run it cooler rather than let it sit at 93c all the time.

(as pointed out the black screens happen to people on all sorts of configs including LC'd so i doubt this fixed it)

Between what i did i seem to have solved it for now but it is very intermittent, could happen one day and not another, i hope it is indeed a simple driver issue.

Quack 🦆
