I'm pretty sure thats the issue too... you were basically playing the game at a beyond a 4k resolution. that would definitely account for stuttering and weird fps drops.

Hi everyone,

I did a little bit of testing involving frame times and average low FPS because I noticed weird stuttering while playing overwatch. I tested in quickplay and captured 5 minutes of gameplay using FRAPS on my own PC, as well as my brother's PC.  I analyzed it afterward using FRAFS. As you can see in the graphs, my PC (R4MK3) performed noticeably worse across the board, even though it has way higher specs (titan x maxwell+i7 6700k+60 Hz 1080p ultrawide vs. GTX 970+i7 3770+ 144 Hz 1080p). Even considering the Higher resolution of my monitor, my PC should not fall that far behind I think. So, does anyone of you know how I could improve frame times and decrease stuttering? (Other games perform as they should btw)

as a troubleshooting method you might consider having your ultrawide screen run in a 16:9 normal 1080p resolution so you can have a more apples to apples comparison. it might also help you rule out the issue of poor game support for ultrawide resolutions (as overwatch is known to have). Its not necessarily going to help you fix anything, but it would help narrow down the problem to see if the ultrawide resolution IS causing undue performance issues with that specific game.

Beyond that I might recommend double checking to ensure your graphical settings are entirely identical (including resolution scaling settings), checking to make sure your systems are running the games in both fullscreen mode or both windowed mode, and having background applications being as similar as possible. Beyond that, drivers are likely to be the only cause that could improve this issue, but assuming you are up-to-date I don't know that there is much you can do. You could perhaps try to overclock your memory as that can sometimes reduce stuttering in the right games although I'm not sure how OW is going to react to it at those framerates...

Which bar is yours and how does your performance compare to your brothers when put into other games? do you normally get more/less/equal fps to him at identical settings even considering your higher resolution?

Yeah, I thought about this, the ultrawide support is really not good, but playing in 16:9 on a 21:9 screen feels like playing at 4:3 on a 16:9 monitor, which I honestly can't stand. But I consider it for further testing :)

The blue bar is the one of my PC. Normally I get more FPS than he does, even with the higher resolution, wich is something I expect from a card that is more than double the performance of a 970.

Yeah I'm not saying you should do this long term or anything... I'm just suggesting that as a troubleshooting method so we can determine what it is about this game and your setup specifically that is causing you issues. We could also eliminate it as a potential cause if it turns out you are still having the issue even at the adjusted resolution.

yeah I figured you would be... but I was just trying to get a feel for what you were expecting here.

So as an additional troubleshooting method, I just fired up Overwatch on my system which is very similar to yours (6700k, 980ti [very close to titan x performance], 1920x1080) and cranked all the settings as high as they go, with the exception of render scaling set to automatic (141% for me). I don't have recording software, but at an eyeballs glance I was hovering right around 100 fps in my game on average. That would line up fairly closely to the level of performance you're getting on a slightly higher resolution monitor (assuming you're also running at/near max settings** with the exception of render scaling). Not sure how your brother is getting 140 fps, but you should double check your settings against his... because your numbers sound like the kind of numbers you should get under max settings**, and there is no way he is getting a 130-140 fps average on a GPU half as strong as ours on the same settings.

**Max settings defined here as the actual MAXED settings (with the exception of render scaling, which was "automatic" at 141% for me), not just the highest preset or the "epic" preset, as there are still settings that can be turned up beyond that point. also make sure of your render scaling as by default it is set to "automatic" which can vary from one system to the next since "automatic" will change based on what blizzard detects your hardware to be and what they feel your performance levels should be.
