My parents want to upgrade their current PC and, I offered to build them one. This would be my first computer build so I'm not entirely sure what parts to get. They don't do too much multi tasking and only need it for email, writing word documents, excel, and occasional YouTube. They do want something that is reliable, fast (with regard to booting up and opening applications), and last a couple years. I just need a full list of parts to get. Something along the lines of...

i3 - i5 CPU

250 GB SSD

1 TB hard drive

Optical drive (they do use it)

They would want to spend around $500 - $700 UDS. Any help would be much appreciated.

I wouldn't even bother building one. Honestly, you're not going to be saving a lot if any. Was looking into a basic machine for a family friend and found it was more cost effective to buy prebuilt Acer T5. If I was to build a system of similar specs myself, it would've cost almost 50-100 bucks more. Just get an off the shelf system from Best Buy, get a new SSD, and install a fresh copy of Windows using the included OEM key.

Honestly I want to do this as a "test run" for when I build one for myself. I'll probably do one for me over the summer or when around Christmas. I mostly wanted to do it for fun and to try it out. So I'll see if I can find one similar, but I still want to try it out myself. Thanks for the suggestion.

It wasn't like he isn't going to be off the hook if he bought it prebuilt anyways. With every system I build (depending on use case) or buy prebuilt for someone, I'll always install TeamViewer because I know what's going to happen 3 months down the line.

Do these seems comparable to the ones the other guys have suggested?

In terms of specs, yes. The builds other people have suggested have better boards, and PSUs. But for a system that's going to be used for everyday tasks like email, YouTube, spreadsheets, etc. The Lenovo and Dell systems will last for a very long time.

Get your windows 10 keys from Kinguin and save money. Also depending on when you plan to build, if R3 from AMD is out, you can probably save by going with R3 4Core/4 Thread chip. Your parents probably don't need a 4Core/8 Thread chip but since it's within your budget, Included it to the build list.
