I need a cheap quad core for my first build.

I am looking at the Athlon 750k

And the fx 4130

http://www.amazon.com/AMD-3-8Ghz-Processor-FD4130FRGUBOX-Edition/dp/B0093HDM3I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1384588575&sr=8-1&keywords=fx+4130

I have looked at some benchmarks and found that they both have the same performance.

But the Athlon is FM2 and the fx 4130 is AM3+.

Should I spend the extra money to get the 4130?

Because I can't find a cheap FM2 ATX motherboard with PCI-E 3.0.

I will probably be using a 7850 and I am afraid that PCI-E 2.0 would slow it down.

Yep AM3 for sure. With a 7850 you're not going to need that FM2 socket for an APU or anything, and huge potential to upgrade in the future. Especially since AMD seem to be sticking with their AM3 socket for a long time.

Go AM3, and the PCIe 2.0 bus won't slow it down.

Go with FM2+(A88X) mobo's and with the 750K since AMD is said to not be updating the AM3+ line

Plus with FM2+ you will be able to upgrade in the future! ;)

Get a Phenom X4 over the 4130, but best would be a 6300

X4 955 or x4 965?

Either go with a 6300 or go with the 750/760K. The FM2 platform is cheaper.

Pci-e 2.0 won't slow it down at all. In very few situations will pci-e 2.0 slow a gpu down.

AM3+.....I have an FX8350 (plus 2x GTX670 SLi'ed)and have clocked it back to 4ghz simply because it hasn't shown itself to be a bottleneck in any of the games I've thrown at it. Get an FX6300 if you can find one, great little budget chip from the reviews I've read of it.
