Hello everyone,

First post here. Huh.

I'm thinking about building my second hackintosh, because the one next to me has served me well, but it's not perfect for today's standards.

My current rig can be found here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/user-builds/63786-habergowds-little-beast-intel-dh55tc-i5-760-hd6850.html#post641382

The 6850 is getting old and I also want to buy a new PSU because this one doesn't have enough ports.

The build that I put together is this: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/231XS

What do you guys think?

Some side notes,

I know, that's a lot of fans. I want this system to be real cold. I know, I should use liquid (nitrogen) cooling if I want that, but I can't afford a full water cooling system. I'll think about cooling the CPU with liquid, because that seems rather interesting. I'll have to see how my budget plays out.

I'd keep the HDD from my current rig, as well as the RAM.

Why so much cooling when you're not even overclocking?

Because I had an overheating system before. Now I don't want to have those issues again.

Also, the white LED fans in the black case would look badass in my opinion.

Quality & location is what counts in cooling, not quantity. It's widely held that a slight positive pressure inside the case is important. This means one wants more air being pulled in than being pushed out. I'd suggest just adding another 120mm intake fan to the front.

A Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO cpu cooler will do a very good job of keeping the cpu cool at a reasonable cost.

I'd suggest better memory. Something like G. Skill F3-12800CL9D-4GBXL (2 x 2GB) which is compatible with the motherboard selected. Although if you can find budget 2 x 4GB would improve things.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

That shouldn't happen even with the stock cooler as long as you have decent case airflow.

Also, more isn't always better. You want a simple front intake to rear exhaust with no interference with airflow. It's about air displacement.

Are you dead set on the Prodigy as a case?

I wanna go with the Prodigy because it looks like a little Mac Pro and a lot of people use it.

Thanks for the advice in terms of cooling. I'll think about it.

CM 212 also sounds good.

Yep, I'd go with a better memory, but I already have 4 gigs of that Kingston RAM. I wanna go back to 8GB since my second 4GB stick died a few months ago, but that's another story.

So you guys suggest that two fans on the front would be  better (2x120) than 1x230?

Also, should I get rid of the top fans just in case I want water-cooling rads there in the future?

No fans on top. You don't want to interrupt the straight front intake to rear exhaust airflow. Also, I doubt you'd water cool a non k series cpu.

Thanks!

If I can find a quiet but good cooler for my CPU,  I'll go with it.

No need for an aftermarket cooler.

Stick with stock. It will do.

If it's too loud, you can always replace it.
