From someone thats on an adsl connection,4km away from exchange, get absolute crap download speeds (youtube loads at 360p at best),is something like this “home” 4g connection a viable option? Ive actually used my phone as a hotspot for gaming and latency wise it was averaging 30ms which is acceptable,im assuming this 4g modem would also provide a similar latency, plus the connection speed of 4g (and hopefully ethernet port?)

Am I overlooking something here or can this genuinely work for people in my case?

Pic very related.

Sorry but no wonder your internet is total garbage with this slow download speeds. You get the performance which you can expect from that.

Vivid are alright, Optus also offers 200GB 4G home internet, iirc it's capped at 12/1 down/up in good signal zones, and 5/1 in others. Just so your downloads don't destroy the network for other users, I guess.

I'd say it's good in your situation, your speeds suck. I'm close to the exchange for my area so I often get 1.8MB down from Steam.

idk

Yeah theyre advertising is as unlimited which really caught my attention, would probably have to call and ask what speed cap if any there is

Anything is better than your current ADSL.

Optus's 4G is $80/mo, how much are you paying now?

At the moment 70,with tangerine telecom. Also when you mentioned the iirc speeds at 12 or 5 down,is that a “line speed” or actual download speed?

Line speed, but it's generally like that. Worth trying it out with a cheap $30 portable hotspot from coles or something before purchase

idk

Oh right so you reckon i should get a cheap 4g lte modem, chuck in a prepaid data sim and try it out first? Would this be an accurate representation of an actual 4g plan tho? If the isp throttles the speed.
