Using a sim card on a tablet

Hey guys

I have a tablet that does not have a sim port. With a sim card to USB adapter is there any way to make the tablet use the sim card. Would rooting make this possible?

Pretty sure it wont work as the tablet won't have the right internals to connect to a mobile network (unless it is inside of the adapter)

It may work if the USB adapter is actually a USB modem that uses a sim card. But the tablet model itself will have to support the attachment of a USB modem, and probably require the installation of drivers. But if the USB adapter is just a sim card reader, forget it.
