Thinking of going with a Ryzen 7 build later in the year and I was thinking...I don't do overclocking, but Ryzen 7 (1700X, 1800X) can reach a higher speed automatically with PrecisionBoost and chipset control.  I would assume this takes temperature and load into account.  I am planning to put together a decent rig, not terribly budget but not crazy either.  Should I still be looking at third-party cooling solutions, or would the stock cooler that would come with 1700X/1800X be alright there?

TL, DR: do I need a third party cooler if I don't plan to do anything besides let it overclock itself?  Does it at that point become a question of want vs. need, or getting a quieter cooling solution?

What's your opinion?

the stock cooler dose a decent enough job but i dont think one is included with the 1800x and im not sure about the 1700x eiher. i know the wraith spire does a decent job at keeping any of those chips cool though

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Ah...looks like you can buy with or without their cooler.
