1. Budget & Location

Vancouver BC Canada. Budget around $750-$800. All items will be purchased through http://ncix.com with local pickup. NCIX will price match.

2. Aim

The reason for the upgrade is to get better performance for using http://speakeasysolutions.com/products/dragon/dragon-professional/ as the current office computer is to slow and can't be upgraded (was upgraded once a few years ago).

3. Monitors

Not needed

4. Peripherals

None needed

5. Why are you upgrading?

See above. With each new version of Dragon the system requirments go up and now the current computer is to slow

6. Cases

Anything basic and plane looking is fine as it will only be in an personal office

7. Old components

None as the current office computer will be replacing an ancient home computer (supper old). The old home computer will be given to a family member.

8. Time frame to buy

2-3 days

The computer will never be used to play games. In the future memory might be upgraded.

The current computer only has 80 Gigs of stuff on the drive so there is no need for a second storage drive or an SSD larger then 120 Gigs.

This is only the second time I have built a computer and the last one was four years ago. Things change so fast it is hard to keep up with what are the best components for your money are..

I don't know much about SSD drives or what ones are the best (really it doesn't have to be the fastest drive considering what it will be used for).

I like Asus motherboards but would consider other options. Computer won't be overclock but might be way down the road. Stock coolers suck but it should work fine considering the system won't be overclocked and seldom pushed to it's limits.

For the type of ram I simply put something in their that was on sale. I don't really know to much about what memory would be best.

i7 needs to stay as I looked into the i5 but the Dragon software actually does perform better on an i7 then an i5. The build has to be Intel not AMD.

Can anyone give me their feedback on this build or places I could reduce the cost?

I hope I did this post correctly. I read the sticky and tried to follow all the instructions to make it as easy for others to give me feedback :)

What are the current office pc's specs?

I don't know the current specs of the office computer as this is for my father but it is five years old now and even when it was new it wasn't close to a high end computer because back then all he used it for was email/web and some basic office stuff like Microsofts word. It has 4 gigs of ram and I believe it is an older AMD chip with 64 bit Windows 7 installed. Not interested in Windows 8 because he knows how to use Windows 7 already.

Recommended requirements for Dragon are an i5 3.4 + 8 gigs of ram but it does run with less it is just slow as hell. It will work on a system like that but is faster the more ram you throw at it and the faster the chip is.

Thank you for your help :)

Decided it will never get overclocked. So new plan. Changed case as partpicker isn't correct.
