I an curious about one thing: Besides iGPU, what advantages are there to an i7 4770 over a Xeon e3 1230 v3, in video editing, CAD, and gaming?

My Build Log on PCPartPicker FX-6300, ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3, MSI 7870 GHz Edition, Corsair Vengeance LP 1x8GB, 1TB WD Blue, Fractal Core 1000 USB 3.0, Corsair CX600, and my most recent addition that I've had forever and isnt new is a 80GB WD800 for Linux, Lenovo ThinkPad X131e, ASUS Transformer TF300T, Galaxy Note 3 Sister dropped it in a puddle I now have to use a Samsung Brightside, Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro 250ohm version, Blue Yeti  #TheRealKEH-JEFF | "Sometimes, if were lucky, in Australia, a family has 2 kangaroos to pick up the kids with" - marto | Your entry here | Remember kids; just because Linus has a video on it, doesn't mean that its the best choice | ts3.wferr.com the best TeamSpeak Abide by the CoC | Looking for build help? Xeons are basically i7s that have been binned to be ready for 24/7 use and have support for ECC memory and as such in workloads that rely critically on 0 errors happening during calculations like rendering. Just like how Quadros are to Geforce or how FirePros are to Radeons.

For gaming i7 but if you are doing like some advanced video editing or video animation or something special like that... Xeon.

They both are hyperthreaded and have 4 cores, both based in haswell. What is the difference? And why would the i7 be better in gaming (disregarding xeons are meant for servers)

Because there is 0 point buying a non unlocked i7. Even the locked i7 I would image would overclock better though through base clock, xeons are built for 24/7 stability and reliability, the ix series are built for more burst horsepower.

i5-3570k @ 4.4ghz (1.240v) || Asrock extreme 4 || CM Hyper 212 evo

Samsung 840 || WD blue 1tb || WD green 1tb || Powercolor 7870 xt @ (1200 mhz core : 1500 mhz mem)

Powered by a silverstone strider 500w psu in a NZXT 210.

I believe they are made to run longer at full load also they are made for more advanced programs which require more accurate processing.

no, they'd be the same. the higher bin on the xeon would help stability though.

I'd go xeon unless you need the IGP.

AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!

OH ok. So is it worth $50 extra to get a 4770 over the 1230 v3?

Unless you are going to the 4770k I would say no.

I would be interested to test that, I don't know how much xeons like their BLCK being played with. Looking at a spec sheet you would think the xeons would go harder (seeing they are a "higher" binned chip, however they are only binned to perform at their stock speed @ <90% load 24/7, much like an 80+ cert it means nothing if it is taken outside the specified parameters).

Anyone here with both to test for us?
