I am putting together a system using a phanteks enthoo pro with a ryzen cpu (either the 1800x or 1700x) and two 10 series (asus dual) video cards.  I want to watercool the cpu, but leave the video cards fan cooled. I am not sure how to vent the case.  My current setup has one of the hard drive cages in place. That means that can't put a 240mm or 280mm rads in the front. So was wondering how I can properly exhaust the video cards and still have good cooling for the cpu? Can the cpu use only a 140mm radiator for overclocking?

A 140mm rad would work but wouldn't be as good as 240mm or 280mm.

Why not just put the rad at top for exhaust?

My concern is that the rad would restrict the airflow to remove the hot air from the gpus and also impact the performance of the watercooling.  I considered watercooling the gpus but I'll be adding the second as I can afford it.

What graphics cards are you using? If you're planning to use two cards already, blower style coolers would probably be best to make exhausting heat less of a problem.

I am looking at the asus duals a 1060 and then a 1080 (when I can afford it). I like the price per performance of these.

Why not just get a 1080 in the first place instead of two 1060's?

It would be a single 1060, "Dual" is the model name.  I want to run two 1080p monitors and a 720p projector off the 1060. And with the 1080, I'm looking at running a 4k/8k monitor with it. And the "Dual" series video cards look the same across all nvidia and amd series.

You mentioned 'two 10 series cards' in the OP. Was that a mistake?

Forgive my forum chat skills, I am new to using this format of communication, let me try again in what I am trying to determine from this forum.  I'll begin by answering the points  you ask about in your link.

1. Budget & Location: I am looking to spend a max of $3000 on the system. I'm looking for balance of price and performance.  And I am from Canada.

2. Aim: The system will be used for editing photos and video editing. My goal is to do time lapse stuff.  The source would be from a DSLR camera shooting 1000 pics at a time, then render them into a 4k video. I want to be able to do batch processing of the pics before rendering them to video. Also produce sound/audio tracks for the videos. The only gaming I do is with games like World of Warcraft.

3. Monitors: As for monitors I am currently using two 21.5" 1080p monitors on a old acer off the shelf system (upgraded video card, GeForce 9500 GT).  I will continue to use them, and I want to add a projector and a 4k 28" monitor down the road. For my new system.

4. Peripherals: Aside from the monitors I have an old Logitech G15 keyboard, G13 Gamepad and G5 mouse. I like the programmable features of these devices and plan to keep them. I would be using Windows 10.

5. Why are you upgrading?: The biggest reason would be that my current system is nearly 10 years old and my video and photo editing software really bogs it down and I can't even play WOW on it with any kind of quality.  I have picked up digital photography as a hobby and I am looking for a system to meet my new needs.

I have started building a new system. I currently have two SSD drives (240G each) that I plan to use in RAID 0. Phanteks Enthoo Pro case with an EVGA 850 G2 PSU. Also I have already installed are USB 3.0 card reader, LG Blu-ray Burner, and a 3.5" SATA Hot Swap dock. I have been buying things as they go on sale.  I am looking to add 2 4TB HDD in RAID 1, 128G M.2 SSd, Ryzen 1700x, 32G RAM, Gigabyte X370 Gaming K7 motherboard, a Asus Dual gtx 1060 GPU and a Asus Dual gtx 1080 GPU. Still considering a sound card.

I want to watercool the CPU so that in the future I will be able overclock it and also it looks cool.  The way I have the case currently configured is that I space for fans or rads as follows: one 120/140mm at the rear, one 120/140mm at the bottom, one 120/140mm at the front, three 120/140mm at the top.

Now my concern is about adequate venting of hot air out of the case. Will a 280mm rad and a 140mm fan at the top allow for proper exhaust from the system interior?

I hope this clears up the confusion some.  I used to build and repair systems many years ago, I built my last system in 2003. So all of the newer tech has me a bit befuddled and it's like relearning computers all over again.  It used to be much simpler back in the day, especially system cooling.

It's fine if you're running one card. That being said, I'm trying to figure out what you listed two different GPUs.

I wanted to dedicate the gtx 1080 for a 4k monitor( maybe 8k). And the gtx 1060 for the other monitors. I considered going sli on either the gtx 1070 or gtx 1080 but from what I have read a lot of software does not take advantage of sli.  I felt that I would be better served using two different gpus with directx 12. Also going this route would allow me to have my system up and running sooner and be able to properly save up for the 4k portion of the system.

Why not just run them off of a single graphics card? Auxiliary displays take very few resources.
