Hello!

So, I brought my PC to a LAN party and I have been having problems since then. I will lay them all out below but first here is a pcpartpicker page will all my hardware and such...

The PCIE Slot:

When i got the the LAN the video card would not output any signal to my monitor or another persons monitor when we tried his, so I decided to switch PCIE slots to the one above it. When we did that the video card magically started working. Great except now the PCIE slot in which the card was in initially is now reading that it is above 60 Celsius in AI Suite. Note that the sensor for the slot the card is in now is reading normal numbers, and they match EVGA Precision X as well. I don't know if this means the sensor is broken, or if the card is actually heating up to those temperatures. I don't know if it is relevant, but the card is sagging, I don't think it matters, but a friend of mine insists that it is noteworthy.

The Memory:

So not knowing anything about computers my friend, thinking he was funny, took out my RAM and put it in his hoodie pockets. Currently my PC is only reading that I have 8GB of ram installed, when just last night it read 16(I haven't touched it overnight). Ive switch memory slots, put individual sticks in and both memory sticks seem to work, I don't know why it isn't detecting the RAM sometimes and it does others.

Overall:

I have noticed a SIGNIFICANT decrease in gaming performance, I am dropping frames and after around an hour of gameplay the computer will freeze, no sound, and a static picture of what was on the screen. I want to note that there is no noticeable tearing or anything, just loss of frames.

RAM may be damaged. Original PCIE slot may be damaged as well.

What are your specs, and how did you transport your PC?

My specs are posted above, https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Sannity/saved/z2GD3C

It was raining so I moved the pc by covering the case with a towel as I went to my car. So I covered it in a blanket to my car, drove it to the LAN Tournament(It was secure, didn't move.) and then carried it inside with the towel again. Then the same thing in reverse to get back to my college dorm.

Was it on the side or sitting up in the car?

I usually recommend using braces or cushions when moving a LAN box, but removal is always preferred in case the weight breaks the pins in the PCIe slot.

It was on its side, and it was wedged between the back of my passenger seat and the backseat. I guess I should say that it wasn't in the car(moving) for more than 3-4 minutes... The LAN Tournament was across campus less than a minute drive away and I was driving slower than usual because of the pc.

So an update that I just noticed. Attached is a picture on my motherboard and the circled heatsink is so hot that I burnt my finger touching it. I believe this is what my issue is, does anybody have any insight on what causes this to get so hot?

Well the reason I ask about transport is because you could potentially damage components by driving over a bump, or things can get loose with rattling.

The circled item is a VRM heatsink. Do you have temp monitoring software?

Yes, I have Asus AI suite(thermal monitor)  and Precision X they both monitor heat

Your friend killed your RAM,

Your driving killed your PCI-e.

Both are fixable with an RMA.

When I go to lan parties by case is locked with a padlock.

I also use a Kensington lock to tie it to something unmovable if possible.

I trust people as far as I can throw them.

It's not a race to the bottom.
