From my understanding CAD is mainly CPU, and some GPU. The 780Ti is a beast for gaming if he ever wants to do that, and it has a crapload of cuda cores if he ever decides to use video editing. How much storage does he need? With the X79 chipset you can have a max of 4TB on one drive. More RAM is always better, and 4 Modules in quad channel is good performance. If he NEEDS a quadro, the K2000 is a good choice but most home users don't NEED quadro's. If he can wait, wait for Haswell-E on the LGA 2013 chipset, and get a 5930k or whatever the equivalent will be. It will have DDR4 which is supposed to kill DDR3. What else will the Machine be used for? Windows, Monitor or Peripherals needed?

Edit: Didn't notice the PSU wan't available. Jesus AU has expensive PSU's....

Hey guys I have been 'hired' to price up a build for doing CAD work. The company I am doing this for does a lot of CAD work and usually I can price out a machine that will work brilliantly with what a customer wants but to be honest I have no Idea what kinds of things are needed for a CAD workstation.

The customer says that they would like a quadro K2000 and an i7 but I am wondering what kinds of things would be best at the price range of under $3000 AUD.

Thanks for the help guys.

The first step to insanity is believing in your sanity.

Really good, just go with some Noiseblocker's or Noctua's instead.

Thanks a bunch!

The build will be for Professional work so I think that the quadro could be a good Idea or something more like a GTX 770. The rig will never be used for gaming, it will be used purely for CAD work.
