So i know that stuff like the Razer core exists, but that's absurdly expensive. My friend has an XPS 13 laptop, and wants to be able to run AAA titles, I've proposed a cheap, $450 build (with an RX 470), but if there was a way, even super ghetto, to use a GPU over thunderbolt 3 without buying a super-expensive dock, it could save a lot of hassle.

(the price needs to be under ~150 USD to make it worthwhile)

I know it's technically possible to do this by removing the wifi card, but that's complicated, and my friend needs his wifi.

the ONLY thing I could think of, would be to use a PCIE extension cable to either place the card somewhere else in the case

or just fully embrace the ghetto and get it outside of the case somehow?

ahhh, it all becomes clear.

A quick amazon search tells me that Razor is not the only the only company to have made an external graphics card to thunderbolt thing

maybe there's one in your price range

I have NO IDEA if any of them work well though, this is the best I can do sorry

riperoni, there are a couple thunderbolt 3s in there; but alas, above the worthwhile budget.

so unless you can find a way to jank the thunderbolt 2 into 3 I have no idea.

sorry man.

That would work, but i have no idea what they cost or where to buy them.

I'm really looking for a really cheap solution. simply a converter from Thunderbolt 3 to a PCI-e gen 3 x4 slot. i can hook it up to a spare PSU i have lying around, put it in a cardboard box, and DIY it for cheaper than buying a prebuilt solution. seems like no such TB3 > PCIe converter exists though.
