Hey yall, I am doing some research into possibly using thin clients in the home and I want to know if my logic / ideas are even sound or possible.

I have my Windows 10 desktop (4790k, 16gb ram, gtx 1080 ftw hybrid) and I want to know if there is a way to share its resources with a thin client (desll wyse or equivalent) on the network. My wife's computer is starting to crap out, and I saw a thin client in an office I visited and made me think it might be possible.

I have seen that the thin client requires server side software and I am okay with running that on my desktop, if it is possible.

So I guess my main question is, would this be possible. Have my machine running (me using it) and her be able to do her normal interneting (5+ tabs in safari / firefox), youtubing, etc.

Thanks.

yes it is possible.

but:

Thin clients suck. VDI solutions are slow and laggy. They cost more to license.

have you seen the cost of a thin client? it would be easier and cheaper to get a chromebook. Iv only seen thin clients in use in call centers where performance and productivity doesn't matter

Yeah I did notice that they want several hundred for a headless unit with 4gb of ram. I have also looked into building one, but this seemed like a straightforward solution and since she doesnt need much horsepower it was something to look into.

you will find its got the same hardware as a chromebook or tablet. Last time i saw one just over a year ago was a samsung with arm processor and some pretty crappy specs for its price
