Laptop for game development?

im going to school for game development. So i will be using a laptop in class and around school for 3D modeling texturing and so on. Is there a labtop out there that is of high quality and great powerful components. it dose not have to be light. But i dont want it to scream gaming and have a load of LED. I just want simple yet powerful. Max 1,900,00 CAD. Ideal price would be around 1,500,00 $CAD

I think there is nothing wrong with aiming for a gaming device. They are packed with power and try to be competetive for normal consumers.

Some "professional" devices are not much faster but expensive. The  "gamer" target group is a big thing for companies and therefore there is a lot of competition.

IMO it´s legit to cut on GPU power (not saying you should get no dedicated) but you don´t need to kill frames in the dev process. A decent GPU will do fine.

If you want code/ 3D Model/ Texture and work with the engine editor at the same time you should opt for 16GB Ram. An SSD with enough space for your Work relatied apps and a small workspace. Huge amounts of raw assets could be on a HDD.

But you should know what your preferences are.

battery life, size, displaytype, maybe color.

I think the Asus ROG Models are a bit gamery but they offer great premium performance.

EDITs:

-------------------------

My biggest personal issue with notebooks as a dev mashine is the displaysize. I hate to tab around. I like to have as much space as possible for the tools.

IDEAS:

something like: https://www.amazon.ca/Asus-GL502VM-DS74-Traditional-Laptop-15-6/dp/B01MS14CQH/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1490698477&sr=1-5  fine config but you don´t need G-sync

http://www.reflexnotebook.ca/sager-notebooks/sager-display/sager-15display/sager-np8155.html  at least opt in a SSD and 16 GB Ram

https://www.amazon.ca/Acer-Nitro-Gaming-Laptop-Windows/dp/B015XBK5NM/ref=sr_1_sc_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1490700708&sr=1-2-spell&keywords=acer+vn+nitro if you are fine with less premium

You should do some research yourself. Compare some Notebooks and ask if you have specific questions. :)

- If in doubt,        ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I agree with @Super1337victim's http://www.reflexnotebook.ca/sager-notebooks/sager-display/sager-15display/sager-np8155.html cause Eurocom hasn't updated their P650HP6 series yet, reflexnotebook is the only place to get them.

^ best deal you'll get in a while. The CPU is a 6700HQ which I dislike, but it comes with a 512SSD and for that price, that's good. You have 1 day and 9 hours for this deal

What's wrong with the 6700hq? Or do you just don't like it because it's old and now there's kaby lake?

It's way too slow. 3.1 ghz at 4 core turbo is terrible. I run my 6820HK at 4.0 ghz on non liquid metal paste. I can get it to run at 4.2ghz stable but I don't need it yet and I'm not on liquid metal. I prefer far better acoustics to raw performance and liquid metal is needed for the temps I'm looking for at 4.2ghz.

I mean it would depend at the end of the day on what you do with the cpu really. Coming from a second generation i5 that's @ 2.5 ghz, the 6700hq is a massive improvement and I likely won't need the 4.2ghz speeds. So I think the 6700hq is definetely a good cpu, just in your case you need more power.

uhhhhh the fact that it's SLOWER than the last TWO generations tells you all you need to know on how bad this specific CPU is in the Intel lineup. It's objectively one of the worse CPUs that Intel has ever released. Just cause it's faster for you, doesn't mean its a good CPU. Compared to its own lineup and last generation lineups it's terrible. Like shit. It's also locked AND BGA. Whereas in Haswell it's MQ chips could OC and be removed and replaced, and it's HQ chips could be OCed and have it's turbo bins adjusted, the 6700HQ is just a turd.

I had a faster mobile CPU in the IVY BRIDGE gen on my laptops compared to the shit that is the 6700HQ. My FIVE year old Macbook Pro with a i7-3820QM could outrun the 6700HQ. For most people, sure you'll get by, but Intel is shafting everyone and most people don't even notice.

God damn, reading your post now I'm not so sure I want an i7-6700hq anymore lol. What's so bad about it I don't quite understand? It's base speeds and the lack of over clocking and because they are soldered onto the board? And what do you recommend as a replacement for it then?
