I'm planning on upgrading to an 2560x1080p, and I have an 1070, I will just be playing at 60.

Based on the above the R7 and 7700k will be near identical in current games because of the 60Hz refresh rate. In this scenario the R7 1700 would serve you better for longer and give you the option to do more (you may want to in the future).

Haha it's good to have you guys 8) Is it hard to overclock the r7 1700? I've only done GPU ocing, never CPU so yeah...

r7 1700 (r5 1600?) + b350 + stock cooler?

I'm not going to lie it is slightly more involved than the intel overclocking (basically 10 mins in the bios instead of 5) but this is largely because its a brand new evolving platform. I have Oc'd my 1700 quite a bit and have found it more fun with the increased level of tinkering :) but a basic OC can be applied very easily to either system. I can help and there are plenty of tutorials popping up.

EDIT: sorry didn't answer you fully. I'd go for the 1700. B350 chipset will be fine yes I can help you pick one out. you only really need X370 chipset for enthusiast settings and crossfire/sli. Yes the stock cooler is actually really nice for a freebie!

You are lucky because Linus just made Ryzen overclocking guide video a few days ago. You can find it on YouTube. It is more involved overclocking if you want to do it correctly but nothing you should be stressing about.

Sounds good thanks! I'll do that :D

Just to make sure...

I know that all Ryzen CPUs can be overclocked. I know that not all AM4 motherboards support overclocking.

Does the B350 support overclocking or can you do that only on AB350 and X370 motherboards?

Couple of things to bear in mind with the Linus video: with the time it took to do and edit and get it out there are inaccuracies like it is now very easy to use presets to get higher ram oc's but yes video is a good start point.

EDIT: Because at the time of this post the BIOS on the mobo linus used changed 3 times by the time he uploaded

B350 does the only difference is it is not possible to have SLI or crossfire

I mainly mentioned it because it is a good visual reference of what to expect. I think there are better online guides to be found that go more into depth and will help fine tune OC for the best possible performance and stability.

aw you snipped me :P which part of what I said?

Sorry! Specifically that games in the future will make use of more cores, and that the AM4 motherboard will be supported for a while. Seems like a solid investment to me. I'm excited for Ryzen 5.
