Upgrading monitors; help please.

I just upgraded my PC and my monitors are 1080p, but are 6+ years old and only have HDMI and DVI.  I picked up a 1080 and would like to get better monitors, as I am not sure how much it really makes sense to spend $1500 a computer just to use 6+ year old monitors that can't push resolutions to frames per second.

I will be running two monitors.  Now I have two 24".

I have been thinking about a few different things and would like some peoples opinions.

I was thinking about getting two 27" monitors that both can run 1440p and have one with a higher refresh rate 100hz-144hz and the other being a lower end monitor that is 60hz.  The first I was thinking about trying to get a g sync monitor, but those so damn blasted expensive.

My other idea was to get an ultrawide and then a smaller monitor to put next to it.  I don't know how I feel about having different resolutions though and space may be a premium on my desk.  I thought maybe about going with an ultrawide and then one monitor that is portrait, that would solve the space issue, but I don't know how much I like the idea.  At my last job I had 3 monitors, one was portrait and it was very helpful when reading code, but I don't do that at home at all and I am not sure I would really get much benefit out of portrait on a my home PC.

How much benefit does g sync really provide?

For people who use two monitors, how noticeable is it when you go from 100hz to 60hz.  Do you notice it when you drag objects across or you move your mouse?

What monitors do people really like?

Does anyone know of a good place to get monitor information?

A good place to get good deals on monitors?

Thanks in advance.

While I'm not a monitor expert, I do know it's really up to the user.

Some people like gaming on an ultra wide, others don't.

I would personally but the ultra wide, since with the higher resolution it's amazing for productivity.

But if you're a more gaming centered guy/girl you'll be better off with two 1440p's with a higher refresh rate.

The best piece of advice that I can give you is, look up as much as you can about how people enjoy their monitor setup.

Here's to the crazy ones...

1.) What's the main purpose for each monitor.

2.) What kinds of games do you like to play.

I will probably only play games on one monitor.  The other will be used for web browsing, video, word processing, excel ect.

I like all kinds of games.  My primary game right now is Elite dangerous.  I play FPS, what I would consider the most intensive genre.

I don't do any graphic design so extremely accurate colors are not real important.  I think responsiveness is more important.  Most of what I do outside of gaming could probably be done on a very low end monitor.

If you have 2 24's, I think a 29in ultrawide will be right around the same height.

I've been kicking the idea of a 1080 ultrawide flanked by two regular widescreen monitors for a bit.  Would be pretty amazing for racing games.
