How do i dedicate more memory to Minecraft

Hey I am pretty new inthe this tech community so i needed to know how does RAM or the memory exactly work and how do i dedicate more memory towards minecraft.

I got 8GB of DDR3 memory and when i allot 2GB of memory into the JVM argument in minecraft it shows that there isn't enough memory, how do i deal with this?

Put that in ur JVM arguments

I have done that atleast 5-6 times till now
