Linus did this with an ASUS gaming configuration consumer tower from BestBuy and building it yourself wasn't much cheaper.

that was a while ago, now you can get a rx480 i7 6700 would be in OPs price range.

But I doubt the price difference between you building it yourself and an off the shelf system (if you can even find one with that configuration) would be significant still.

Better psu? Better looks? For 1800nzd it makes sense not for low end 500usd
