-moved to new build planning-

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

1. Get a Z270 instead

2. Get a Cryorig H7 instead

These at a bare minimum, yes.

As for the GPU, are you playing at high resolutions or framerates?  If not, I might drop down to a 1070 just for that reason alone.  You can spend what you save now on something far more powerful down the road when it becomes necessary.

As for the SSD, nothing wrong with that one, but have you considered going M.2 NVMe?  They are much faster (though I can't personally attest to what difference in system speed you will feel) and in some cases don't actually cost that much more any more.

I know there is nothing wrong but the extra performance of Samsung SSD isn't really worth the cost and he would be better upgrading to an i7 with money saved

Also if he is gaming then m.2 nvme won't be beneficial much (also he has to pay more). NCIX did a recent test on BF1 and showed no difference

I'm thinking just for the OS, if the cost isn't prohibitive.

Fantastic.  Only a 1080 Ti, or dual cards or some kind would be better.
