Failing HDD

So my friend has been having some problems with his HDD, not loading into windows, long download times, and just taking a long time to boot when it decides to load into windows, but most of the time it just says "Reboot and select proper Boot Device"  Are these signs of a failing drive or am I just going crazy and cant find a fix for it. I've thought it was just a boot error, I've heard that the Windows bootloader can cause this problem, but when I tried to fix it it didn't work. Anyways if you know of any fixes let me know.

Those are signs of a failing drive. Run Crystal Disk Info and see what it says. If it's failing (bad sectors, etc.), you should back up the data immediately and stop using the drive.
