Hey guys,

I recently snagged a RX 460 4gb (gigabyte windforce OC edition) to add to my computer replacing a HD 7770. Paired with a FX 4300, 8gb ram, asus m5a97 r2.0, 550w psu

Since then I've experienced Freezing while playing games. Sometimes as soon as I load into a game sometimes after 1-3hrs of gaming. Screen will change to solid color and audio buzzing occurs (sometimes black, green, pink etc). Only way out is a hard reset of computer.

Same thing occurred during a GPU stress.

My event viewer only only shows a critical event where computer was restarted improperly. Logs during my stress test show nothing abnormal.

Temps are all fine. Can't get a logged error and computer isn't actually crashing (I'm holding the power button). I've let the color screen sit for hours and no change.

Reformatted windows 10 multiple times, changed to windows 7, checked both hard drives (nonissue), ddu old drivers in safe mode and reinstalled, tried other versions of drivers (some other forums showed similar issues with this fix) and nothing.

ONLY fix I've found is using wattman to reduce power by 15% (any less is a crash) and I'm reducing GPU speeds (otherwise the 15% power reduction makes it unstable) by 10%.

is it possibly my older Mobo can't supply the power??

Return the card for exchange. Sounds like it is a defective card to me.

That simple? What's defective I wonder?

I mean It works for YouTube (hardware accel on chrome) and some days it lets me play 2-3hrs. Some days it's quits.

I don't have the box for the card and I know my local store is going to give me crap for that so I'd rather try to solve any potential problems. If you say it's simply the card then siiiiiigh but if there MIGHT be something else I can try let me know??

Also thanks for your reply! And in advance for any further advice :)

I can't tell you exactly what is broken but based on my personal experience with video cards that have died and only show solid color screens and surprisingly with an AMD APU that did something similar where light regular work was fine but gaming it would freeze or display solid colors only, reboot and it would work again.

I returned it problem solved.

If you don't have the original box you can try contacting the manufacture for a warranty replacement.

You could try to reinstall widows, I've done the same to rule out software but in the end what your describing sounds like defective hardware.
