You will need a /23 or larger (/23 to /1 will work) to handle more than 250 devices.

/23 handles 510 hosts

So you can use any address space you need but you need to change the subnet mask. For /23 its 255.255.254.0 so 'ip address 192.168.0.1 255.255.254.0' will work.

Oh ok, so just change the mask and I'm good?

Thanks

Yah, the smaller the mask the larger the subnet, if that makes sense :)

Thank you ;)

Still learning this

By the way, is there an high demand for knowledgeable\expert people on networking? Or is it a crowded market?

I am enjoyng this so far

(I am assuming you work on network from your tag)

There is a huge demand for it. I'm a network engineer myself and my main focus is on testing network designs and codes before deployment. If you can get a couple certs at the CCNA level or even a CCNP and have some knowledge of coding (always a plus in this day and age) and VMWare tossed in there, you'll be golden for finding a job.

If you don't mind my asking, I assume you're in school, are you in college or high school?

I am on university, been there for 4 years but only last 2 have been serious for me. I was divided by going to database\web but now that I am learning about networking I have almost made my decision to persue it.

That's about how it was for me. I started off wanting to be a game developer and did that for about 2 years, then changed to business for about a year or two before finding networking and I haven't looked back. Got my associates in networking technology and happened to hear about internships at Cisco while I was still working on my degree. Next thing you know I'm working for them as a full-time co-op/intern and a few months later I was finishing up school and got converted from co-op to full-time employee :)

I love it when people bother me with questions about networking :P

It's my passion and I'm more than happy to help people willing to learn.

I'll PM you with some more information in a little bit and a few questions, if you don't mind.
