I have a 5 year old Dell Inspiron n 5110 laptop. With release of Windows 10 I decided to give it a try. It had been working fine on my machine, but I thought it could work even better if I installed an SSD drive. Eventually I bought a Kingston SSDNow KC400 128GB and installed it instead of my Western Digital WD6400BPVT75HXZT1 HDD. My laptop was working fast for a while, but recently I started noticing some sudden freezes. Moreover when such freeze happens Task Manager shows 100% active time and no read or write actions. Sometimes it unfreezes, sometimes I need to press power button and restart my laptop.  While looking for a solution online I found that some people had the same issue after SSD installation and suggested to switch from AHCI to ATA or IDE mode in bios and re-install the system. Honestly, I'd rather do it myself as I had been struggling for a month now re-installing/resetting Windows, installing different AHCI drivers (e.g. Intel Rapid Store Technology) and other drivers as well. I even signed for Windows Insider program with hope that newer builds should have this problem fixed, but no luck.

I know if I switch from AHCI to ATA/IDE I will lose Active Command Queuing and that concerns me as I still use my HDD instead of DVD ROM and that switch can also affect performance of my external HDD. I even downloaded a bootable Windows build, started from it, previously changing SATA settings in BIOS, and tested performance of all my hard drives. Eventually I got approximately 50% performance loss in some cases.

Anyway, maybe someone smarter than me will shed some light on this issue and give me some tips on how to deal with it. Thanks in advance and hope to hear some answers soon.
