Wait for Ryzen 5? Yay or nay?

Hey Guys!

I was planning on building my computer in late April, but now we have Ryzen 5 Specs, and i'm not sure if I should re-plan my build. If I did go for Ryzen, I would get the 1600x. I would want to keep my build relatively the same, because I have this whole Asus Aura sync thing going on. The Ryzen cpu would make me fork out an extra 80 dollars or so for a board with asus aura. Also, the NZXT Kraken x52 will require a bracket from NZXT, which may take a while to get to canada. Overall, it would make my build way more expensive. Here is my current build: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/rv3WwV

I Say yay if it's anything like the Ryzen 7 there could be potential for a i7 like cpu for half the price.

i built a computer for a friend in the corsair 460X RGB case a couple weeks ago and it was a pain in the butt...also it's expensive...i would recommend you take a look at the Phanteks P400(s) tempered glass edition...i recently got one and re-built my PC in it and it's much better than the corsair case...and it's made in many colors so there is certainly one to match the aestetics you want.

Strictly gaming, the 7600k would be faster by a few FPS

otherwise I would go for the 1600x because of the cores

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

Hey Guys!

  • 3.2GHz 1400 (four cores, eight threads, 3.4GHz boost) for $169
  • 3.5GHz 1500x (four cores, eight threads, 3.7GHz boost) for $189
  • 3.2GHz 1600 (six cores, 12 threads, 3.6GHz boost) for $219
  • 3.6GHz 1600X (six cores, 12 threads, 4.0GHz boost) for $249

Those are some really good prices. 6 Cores will still have some benefits in DX11. I'd think the price is worth the wait. Seeing how Ryzen 7 fared against it's Intel pricing competitive counterpart doing $-to-$, Ryzen wins in performance.

We don't even know what the performance of the 1600x is, only speculation.

The performance advantage gained from higher core clock is literally 0-2 frames as seen from Linus' 1800x vs 7700k video with the 1080Ti. But then you'd also be in the territory of paying the Intel price over Ryzen ATM which doesn't look very good from a Price to Performance perspective.

As far as I know the current RYZEN lineup would have the same IPC across the board. The same goes with Intel, a 7th gen i3 would perform the Same as a 7th gen i7 as long as it's the same cores, cache and threads.

looking at your part list...you are blowing way to much money on RAM...this SSD...and the motherboard man...and you skimp on CPU...i think it's not a good idea...you could get a lot more performance for less money.

yes but you can get good looking parts that are not THAT expensive to the point where you can't have an i7 and a good SSD though... :P

Well, $5 more gets him much faster RAM... with RGB.  He has not planned all that well.  Good thing he is posting here.

That's still nothing concrete, there's no point spending your hard earned cash on rumors and leaks. Even if the Ryzen 7 performs a certain way, we still do not know how the six and quad core variants will perform as they're a new architecture.

You see, I'm really into aesthetics, and I've already bought half my parts. My system will work just fine. All I asked about was the CPU. Thanks though

If you have a 1920x1080 monitor, you might want to drop back down to a GTX 1070 and grab a 2560x1440 IPS panel.

If you wait for the 11th of April, you might be able to save some cash by getting a R5 1400.
