So I am planning on getting the MSI Z87-G65 motherboard, I would like to have a black/red themed build and i felt that this motherboard just doesn't have enough red. So i would like to have kind of an under glow effect, I don't actually know if its possible or if so how its going to turn out. Has anyone done this or seen the results of it? Any input would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

I was thinking that as well but an LED strip would be the only thing that would fit.

What about putting some LED's in the mounting holes/ vent holes which you don't use on the motherboard. Obviously you would point them towards the motherboard tray but might give a backlight...

I see what your saying although there is only one hole that I'm not going to be using for mounting.

Well its common to see on some motherboards holes for venting.

Okay, what about this then. Where the CPU cut out is, you could fit them around there coming from the backside of the motherboard tray...

i think if you had something like this http://www.scan.co.uk/products/akasa-ak-ld02-05rd-vegas-led-strip-light-60cm-red you could put it on the motherboard or the tray and it would give a nice glow out it's thin so i think it would work well and it also has some double sided tape to stick to it.

main rig: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/GFvH7P

next upgrades. h440 . 8320.  possible liquid cooling AIO

I was thinking the same thing but LED's like to throw light in one direction, you'd probably get the under glow effect that I'm looking for but not as even as i would like.

I'm going to be using a 650d so that might work out quite well.

i don't know then cathode would not work as there diameter is too much without modding it would not be an option it would look uneven but what about having 1 strip on your motherbard and one on the motherboard tray?

I could do that, i think what I'm going to do is just test out different positions of the LED strips.

Thanks, I'll be looking forward to that.

I took a whole load of photos, but no matter how hard I tried I could not get the light to be seen in any of the photos...  Sorry man

Alright, well thank you anyways.

I think that it more because there is so little space between the motherboard and the case's tray. I am using the sabertooth board and because of this it does have the extra chunk of metal in it...

  • 3 weeks later...

Assuming you have cable management, you could velcro some cathodes to the back, tke the gromets out and BAM, a wild motherboard lighting appeared.

LOOK AT MY TUBE, MY TUBE IS AMAZING. DONT LICK IT IT DOESN'T TASTE LIKE ANYTHING. IT DOESN'T HAVE A MANE OR PENIS EITHER. SHUT UP.
