Just grab like a 1070 or 1080 and you'll be fine, I don't see a reason to upgrade your CPU.

I was looking at the 1080's specifically the Asus (OG-STRIX-GTX1080-O8G-GAMING) ....Should I just wait for a after market 1080Ti?

Maybe add some faster RAM. Bigger SSD. More Power. Other than that + what @Theguywhobea said, and I think you'll be good.

Better dead than Red.

I guess that's up to you dude. Does it fit your budget? Are you on 1440p or 4K? I wouldn't get it for just 1080p.

Desktop: i9 11900k, 32GB DDR4, 4060 Ti 8GB 🙂

Could you give me a recomendation on RAM as well as PSU, as for the SSD I don't really need it because it has my OS on it..

Is there a big differnce between the 1070 and 1080...and if I wait should I get a aftermarket 1080Ti

I'll work around my budget. I currently have two 1080p monitors (Acer H236HLbid), but I've been looking at new monitors as well in the future..What are some recommendations you would propose.

you could switch to DDR4 for any reason (idk why u would). Add more RAM sticks if you have extra slots. Upgrade the GPU. Get a Z270 Mobo and add 2 GPUs in it lol.

Just have fun with it.

His i7 4790k is not compatible with Z270 boards.  He is stuck with Z97 until he upgrades CPU as well.

But as other said, there is no need to upgrade.  The 4790k is a very powerful CPU and can easily keep up with a GTX 1080.

16GB of RAM is still enough for any gaming and multi tasking you'd be doing.  32GB would be useful if you use the system for heavy workloads like photo and video editing, or other work type stuff.

Your PSU is good and does not need an upgrade.

The 1070 is about double the performance of 970, making for a very massive upgrade.  The 1080 is about 25% to 30% faster than 1070, and 1080 Ti is another 25% - 30% faster than 1080.  These cards are meant for either 1440p 144hz+, or for 4k 60hz.  The 1070 would be good for 1080p at 144hz+ as well.

Honestly the only thing worth upgrading right now is your GPU and monitor.  If you have money, you should look at the 1440p 165hz IPS Gsync displays such as Asus PG279Q and Acer XB271HU.  They are amazing!

All other upgrades would be just for fun, with little or no tangible difference.

Depends. The 1080 Ti is a beast and it is around 25% faster than a 1080, or ~50% faster than the 1070. If you game at 1080p, get a 1070, it is more than enough. If you game at 1440p, the 1080 should suffice. If you want to get a 4K monitor, or if you already have one, the 1080 Ti is a no-brainer.  If you want to game with a high refresh rate monitor, the 1080 Ti will also be better. However, the 1080 Ti is $200 more expensive than the 1080, so if that is worth it is really up to you :D
