I currently running a gtx 980, I will buy a LG 29UC88 (21:9 2560x1080) and planning for a GPU upgrade soon.

question 1: is freesync worth it?

I planning for to get a 1070 few months from now but if RX 480 will not tear with this monitor I might consider rx480 since it will save me some cash.

Gigabyte RTX 2070 Super OC | Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500gb | NZXT H200i | NZXT x52 | Corsair RM650x

It's a side grade performance wise, but if you can sell off your 980 for the 480, not a terrible idea.

Alternatively, you can sell it off and buy a Fury.

Why would you consider 480 if you already have 980?

I will only do that if its worth trading the extra performance of 980 with freesync

If you want the most out freesync then you should go with amd card however if you want to get the 1070 then i would look into a monitor that supports G-sync

Nope,gsync panels are too pricey

Freesync is to prevent screen tearing, so your call on that.

The nezt question here is that does rx480 have enough power to push high fps on 2560x180 because if not then it will be useless

An overclocked 480 like the gaming x you would be trading for, is on par with 980. It's a really good trade. As for 2560 x 1080, the 480 is capable as long as you're conscious of settings. FreeSync makes lower fps more bearable too. I've been playing revelation online which just released, and it's a good thing I have a FreeSync monitor. 30 to 40 fps in populated areas is a lot less jarring than before I had a VRR monitor. No stuttering whatsoever.
