I'm trying to decide on a GPU upgrade. Originally I was going to find a cheap 1060 6GB card, but then I thought maybe AMD would have something good it the £200-£300 price range. A bit of searching on PC Part Picker yielded these 4 cards, the two best rated for 1060 6GB and RX 480 in the list.

I'd like to know a bit more about how well they run and which one people recommend. I'm no expert on AMD stuff so this would also be a good opportunity to learn more about them.

Thanks for any help.

rx 480 performs better on dx12 and vulkan and 1060 more on dx11,  just depending what are you going to do... If you're getting a 480 (whats what i'd go for because price/performance), go for msi because aesthetics (but i recommend xfx rx 480 gtr since its performance and cooling are awesome). But if you're more team nvidia, asus dual 1060 will work fine...

Remember to quote me (or someone else), otherwise we won't going to recieve your answers...

PC Specs                   PCPartpicker full performance builds (from350$-1250$)

£194.99 for an 8gb rx480

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus-radeon-rx-480-dual-oc-8192mb-gddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-40v-as.html

It might seem like a good deal but its not, shipping is £25 which puts it to £251 and that doesn't include import tax/charges which then puts it up to £301

250GBP gets you an R9 Fury which is a very good card for the money, check that out at Newegg UK

It needs 2x8pin so be careful if your PSU can drive it

How does it stack up against a 1060?

Price for performance is always good, but if I can fit a better card into my budget then I would. I'm on neither team, but I know more about Nvidia cards. I don't really care about appearance as my case doesn't have a window. One question is if I can get a good one of these cards at the lower end of the range—£200-£240—then I have more headroom for a bigger HDD.

Wow! Thanks for finding that. I guess one thing to consider is what is best for games? More VRAM and a slower clock? Or less VRAM and a faster clock? That would make the decision easier.

Where does it say import tax? I said $250 incl. shipping.

idk

You can't compare clock for clock when comparing a 1060 to a 480, or any nvidia card to an amd card for that matter.

the RX480 will probably get better driver updates in the future, but i'd be a little biased in suggesting one as i have a 480 myself :P

That does a good job of selling it.

Any other notes or suggestions? Or is this about as good as I'm going to get?

EDIT: I'm assuming a 650W PSU should handle it fine. I don't have much else going on. AsRock Z75 Pro3 with an i5-2400 shouldn't be too hard for 650W right? If not then I guess I could switch out for my old 750W non-modular one that is the ugliest thing I've seen in years, but like I say, no window so it should be fine.

Sorry for no response, it was 2am lmao

It's about as good as you're going to get for the money even on the used market.

What brand of 650w? You should be fine.

idk

After the new Crimson Drivers were released, the 1060 6GB and 480 8GB are almost equal. I would recommend buying whatever is priced better in your area.
