So i have this speaker

And i purchased a couple years ago a random generic 4'' Subwoofer, i put that thing in the speaker ^^ and its terrible sounding.

My theory (I have no audio/speaker experience whatsoever) is that the wire powering the subwoofer isn't ''set'' to power a subwoofer meant for lows. Its meant to power the crappy 2 way speaker that would be there on the original speaker.

So would it be hard to ''Re-Wire'' the speaker to work as a subwoofer? Or is it that theres not enough battery power and i could buy a bigger battery and make it power the sub only.

Or is this a stupid idea in general and i should just buy a better speaker cause it would take too long

I have this dream of a portable speaker with bass comparable to 2.1 desktop speakers. So if i could get this thing to work like that, i've met my goal.

I think it would be kind of hard to wire a pre-built bluetooth speaker but not impossible, yes you can rewire but if you don't have some knowledge of wireing i wouldn't recomend it

Could i just gut the entire thing and put new hardware completely?

So you took the wireless section of the original monstrosity and sent the output into a passive 4'' subwoofer. Assuming you sent the amplified output to the driver, it's either got a less powerful amp than the driver needs, or there is either active/passive processing/crossover which is reducing the frequency range through the amp.

This. Buy something that does what you want.

Define portable, does using a car battery count? do you want it to be fully wireless? Is this something small enough to be able to take on holiday with you?

Portable as in wireless, to put in a backback or dufflebag and take around

Unless you've got a freakishly large back, you won't get close to a full 2.1 system without sacrificing carrying anything else. There are decent enough products, but not the best audio quality. There are also wheeled speakers, but they're generally larger and would need a larger battery (e.g. car battery) for mobile power.
