It seems I'm here every now and then asking for help aha. After a lot of thinking and consideration as well as research I've decided on this build. I was originally just going to by myself a laptop but I'm getting a LOT more FinAid than I was expecting and with the GTX 1080 Ti and Ryzen out now it seems like the best time to build a PC. I will use the PC for gaming quite a bit but I will also be doing 3D modeling, animation, texturing, rendering, etc. I'm currently going to college for all that and would love to be able to practice at home. I also wont have an SSD because they are just too pricey at this point in time so I may get one in the future however.

I've got the keyboard and mouse that I want already btw. I'm here wondering if there's anything I can improve upon or any suggestions you guys may have. My currency is USD as I'm in California. I'm looking at keeping it around $2800 as I'm getting $2900 in FinAid and combined with what I've already got i wanna be able to also get the nintendo switch.

Build:

Silver stone Primera Case - $115 (possible placeholder. Anyone know any good looking full tower cases?)

ASUS ROG Crosshair VI Hero - $255

AMD Ryzen 1800x - $500

Cyrorig Ultimate r1 - $89

Gelid Extreme Thermal Solution - $13

Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB 3200 Mhz - $130 (used to be $100.. Anyone know any better low profile or average height RAM?)

2TB Seagate Barracuda - $70

EVGA Supernova G2 750W - $100

4x Corsair Air Series AF140 red LED - Around $52 total

Asus ROG SWIFT PG279Q 1440p display - $728

Corsair Gaming Mouse Pad MM300 - $20

The GPU will be one of the aftermarket GTX 1080 Ti's most likely - Around $700

Total - $2745ish

This is probably the third maybe fourth time seeking help. I'm just a paranoid person and it's getting extremely close to the day where I can finally build this desktop. Any and all help is appreciated, a lot of thought has gone into this and I want to make sure it'll be the best for what I can get.

Ryzen isnt worth it (according to benchmarks) over intel for gaming. Software developers will have to change their code to unlock more performance

We'll see how the future is for Ryzen gaming tbh but I'm also not only doing gaming and I'll be doing it in 1440p where the gap isn't as big as the 1080p gap

Was considering that originally but it's costly. It's also not as good as the 1800x in multithreaded performance and CPU intensive tasks.

a 1800x would crush animation and modeling, gaming is not that bad.

Eyup which is why I'm going for it. I'm sure AMD will figure out some bios things and such to improve performance in gaming and a lot of Devs will be working with them on improving it in specific games and future games. I think I'll be happy with the 1800x in the end especially if AMD can figure out how to push out more gaming performance in any way and fixes the RAM issues.
