Updating Windows 8

In the middle of moving to a new PC from a shared PC, so i backed up all the important data and repartitioned the harddisk, found 8 bad sectors in the process but I'm not exactly sure what caused them. If its just corrupted data that got there from a virus or bad coding or a serious hardware issue, either way i reinstalled windows 8 and trying to get it up to Windows 8.1. But it WONT Install all the updates. When i go back to the updates panel it still says to restart, i have restarted seven times now and its probably not good for the harddisk if it actually does have a serious issue.
