Dr. Zaber Sentry Build

Hello All,

I have never actually put together a pc before but I have been doing a lot of research and it looks simple enough. I have purchased a DR. ZABER SENTRY case and hope to build in it. If it doesn't actually get made or shipped or gets caught up in any way I was thinking the FRACTAL DESIGN NODE 202 or the SILVERSTONE RVZ02B would be good substitutes. If the whole build itself is too much for the case then it will be easily turned into a fine HTPC.

This build is to be a mid tier to high tier gaming rig. I want this build to be easily transportable and be the size limit for carry on. Right now the cash flow is a little limited which is why I am going for the first build below. I will pair it with a Portable monitor which I haven't decided on yet. (any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated as well. looking for basically a tablet monitor so I can game with it either on a desk or laying down in bed.)

The DR ZABER Case info is here

http://zaber.com.pl/sentry/

This is the build I want to try and get ASAP

and this is where I eventually want it to get to.

You will notice two CPU coolers. With the configuration I have set up, I can either put a third 2.5 drive bay for 4 more drives in the GPU compartment, or hypothetically I could fit a small AIO water cooler into that area. I have done the math and the water cooler I have chosen should fit. I want to know if that would be worth it or if It wouldn't do a thing. Also if it is not worth doing water cooling, then would the fan be enough to get the job done?

The PSU also gives me a reason to pause. I went to a local computer shop with this build and they told me that the SFX12v wouldn't be enough to power this beast. I was confused and hoped to get more information. I didn't see any regular SFX or SFX-L PSU's that didn't fall under the SFX12v category on pcpartpicker. Any clarification on this point is most welcome.

If there are any problems anybody sees with this build/configuration please let me know. Anything that is exceptionally good would be great to hear about as well. As I said I have done the research and everything should work fine with it, but I definitely want a second opinion. Thank you all so much.

You can have a better build for $1400.

With these changes and me being in Canada, your build would push the cost to $1967.00. With some other tweeks that have been suggested it pushes it to $2177.00

Its not a bad build but the Case doesn't have any 3.5 drives slots. With this maybe having the AIO water cooler in it there would only be room for two 2.5 drives and 1 M.2. I could change the mobo but then I wouldn't have M.2 SSD Support. I changed a few things from your build to accomodate having M.2 and 2 2.5 drives. What do you think?

Is this the only thing you would change? This is within my price zone but I just wanted to check if there was anything else where I could upgrade or downgrade to be able to afford the 1070 mini. I just don't know where I could do that. It all comes down to how much I have saved up by June or any advances that happen from now till then. Will this build limp me through a year or two before I have to upgrade it?

Also looking for advice on the water cooling option, or is there a different forum for that? Possibly Case Modding?

No worries man. Even if you aren't familiar with Canadian rates I could still use advice for the parts. This was advice from someone else. Its very doable budget wise for me.

However I would like to change it to this

The price of the 1070 will leave me fairly skint. Is there any way to cut corners now to drop the overall price down? Or should I just stick with the 1050 build?

Also, what do you think of that water cooler idea?

Water cooling is beneficial 100% of the time in small cases if done right.

I got a smaller SSD and a cheaper mobo.  Everything else is mainly the same.

If you're still uncomfortable with the price, drop down to a 1060 6GB.  It's the sweet spot between the 1050 aand the 1060 6GB.  Either a 1060 or a RX 480 will suffice.
