Well, certainly it could be the mic gain is set too low, as one option. Unlikely but the easiest fix if its true :)

 

Second, check the following two things (just as a test).

 

Plug the Mic/headphones directly into the USB, avoiding the hub. See if that fixes the problem.

 

What may be happening is the hub is not able to fully power the USB, causing the mic to not receive the voltage it needs for optimal sound pickup.

 

If that doesn't fix the problem, if you are on a PC test the 3.5mm port (avoiding the USB all together). Could be a fault on the USB or even a fault on the mic.

 

Also, feel free to try unplugging your headphones, similarly trying to get as much voltage to the mic as possible (I mean, I have never heard of headphones diverting power from the mic, but why not give it a test)

 

Report your findings here :) - The USB hub thing is extremely rare, so this may be ending up in the hands of our actual customer support as opposed to my somewhat less compete hands!
